Studying at The Florence Academy of Art

For a great number of years, it’s been my dream to study art, specifically portraiture in the traditional sense. After having been self taught most of my art education so far, I finally took the leap in October 2023 to move abroad and begin my training at The Florence Academy of Art in Italy. The Academy is one of the few places in the world that still holds technique, skill and craftsmanship at its core, as it has been historically.

I feel I’ve truly found the place where I can learn and engage in my craft and be around practitioners that can help guide me to make the artwork I’ve always dreamed I could make.

For the past four months I have been training my eye and hand, learning in great depth about classical techniques, studying the old masters, and taking anatomy classes.

It’s a very exacting program and, though it means I have very little extra time for side projects, the things I am learning through the course are absolutely invaluable to my practice. I can’t wait to see how my learning will progress and be able to share my future artwork with you!

I will be updating my website and social media often with my work from the academy, so check back frequently to follow my progress.

Fundraising for tuition fees

I recently set up a GoFundMe page to help me cover my tuition fees for the 3 year certificate program at The Florence Academy of Art.

If you would like to support me in my artistic training, please consider how you can help. Click on the link below to find out more.

Another way to support me is to purchase one of my finished artworks. You can browse a selection either here on my website or on my Instagram account. Should you find something you like, please send artwork enquiries to alexkaiart@gmail.com
